Week 3 Affection: Discussion Questions

Hello dear sisters! I hope you have been enjoying week 3 of our study. We’ve talked about before how this whole study is completely counterculture. We see that it is no different with this weeks lesson. We all need a heart for marriage and family but how we live it out is different for each of us based on our family. I like that we get to see both sides from Nancy and Mary. On page 81 Nancy says, “For all of us, whether married or single, it looks like (living out) valuing, respecting, celebrating, prioritizing, and seeking to build up the marriages and children around us-whether our own, or others’. But that way of thinking requires swimming upstream – against our flesh and the culture.”

Here are some discussion questions. You can share your thoughts and comments here, write them down in your book during your quiet time or discuss them with another sister doing the study with you.

  1. Do you think you love and esteem the family as much as God would like you to?
  2. How can you cultivate a mindset that values marriage as God does?
  3. Why do you think deceitful spirits and demons promote beguiling, false ideas about marriage?
  4. Would you characterize yourself as a “child-liker”?
  5. Can you identify any ways that you have bought into faulty perspectives on marriage, children, or family?

On page 83 of our homework we were asked to look back over this week’s lesson and ask the Lord to show us one main “take-away point” that you can apply to your life. I would like to encourage you to do that!

We have a group of women meeting on Monday evening to do this very same study. I will post our discussion video as soon as it’s ready.

True Woman 201: Week 3 Affection

Hello sisters welcome to week 3, Affection. I would like to share a few points from the opening pages of the chapter. The authors say on page 62, ” Then he (Paul) lists several other things that are vital for women of God: loving their husbands, and children, being self-controlled and pure, working at home, being kind, and being submissive to their husband. These are things that older women ought to be competent to teach and younger women ought to be eager to learn.” I don’t know about you but I can’t say I would have always been “eager to learn” this things. Though I can look back on my life and see how much easier I could have made it on myself had I. I don’t know what stage I fall into these days, older?, younger? I don’t know…maybe both at times. I do know that this is the kind of woman that I desire to be. I want to be the older woman who is competent to teach and walks alongside younger women and I want to be the younger woman who is eager to learn from the older women God has placed in my life. I hope this is the kind of woman you want to be too.

I also like how the authors address that these instructions from Paul are for all women, married, single, have children, don’t have children, no matter your family status Paul is speaking to all of us. On page 63 the authors say, “Your womanhood is ultimately not about you. It’s about displaying the glory of God and His powerful redemptive plan.Even if you never have a husband or children, it’s crucial for you to understand the great, eternal realities to which your womanhood points. A True Woman values and loves God’s plan for the family. Married or not, she has a deep affection for family and does what she an to help families reflect the gospel story.”
