The Breastplate of Righteousness

Week 3 Tiffany Theisen

“The Breastplate of Righteousness”

Looking into the mirror; week 3, early morning before the hurried hustle and bustle of the day begins. I am contemplating as I see my reflection through my bathroom mirror, that everything we do or say is the reflected condition in which our heart stands.Week 3 Tiffany's Blog

God states it so clearly “Guard your heart; above all else that you guard, for out of it flows the spring of life” (Proverbs 4:23). What other immaculate piece of armor; than The Breastplate of Righteousness, to guard against the stare-down of the enemy…who is so eager to entrap us…entangle us. He desires nothing more than to catch you “sleeping” or perhaps being a negligent watch-guard over the single most vital spiritual life source we possess; our hearts.

The thief only comes to steal, kill & destroy;
I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly”
John 10:10

Your mind is the key challenge point that the enemy will use to shoot a spear straight to the center of your heart; protecting your heart against expected AND unexpected attacks is an essential ritual we should be preparing ourselves for each and every moment. The enemy knows that if he can access your heart; he can destroy you, and once the entrapment starts……the ball just keeps on rolling. “I could be a better Wife” or “I should be a better Mother” or “I could be……” the list goes on and on; we’ve all been there, and on a daily basis. There are moments where I get “locked inside my head”; the enemy is on the rise, and I am forced to continually remember that God has given me a weapon strong enough to break any barrier forced upon me…..SPEAK OUT THE WORD OF GOD! “For The Bible is alive and active; sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitude of the heart.” Hebrews 4”12.
As comical as it may be to think about; I will randomly declare blessings through scripture over myself during these quarrels surrounding my heart, and each time God strengthens me to withstand the next seemingly impossible escape. Discouragement, insecurity & self-doubt should be replaced with confidence, security & self-love. Putting on The Breastplate of Righteousness assists God in helping you fight off the fleshly “battle field” in your mind & frustrates the plan to keep you from cultivating new health & spiritual wellness in Christ. (Day 2/week 3 homework reference).

It’s kind of like a prison (bear with me here). The role of the prison guard is two-fold; don’t let anyone in and certainly don’t let anyone out. We as Women; especially, must be more aware and conscious of what we allow not only INTO our hearts…..but OUT of our hearts as well. If you are anything like me (A Woman), you have a soft heart; a vulnerable heart…..the enemy is as aware of this as he is the back of his hand. We can protect ourselves with fervent prayer, with knowledge & wisdom (open God’s Word), with the words that we say (SPEAK LIFE), with what we watch, what we think & through our actions.

Week 3 Tiffany's Blog 2

It seems like such a simple command; guard your heart, but it has the potential to destroy us if treaded upon lightly. We have God’s powerfully available to us, but so often we forget to take FULL advantage. His word is alive, mercy triumphs over judgment every time; we need to activate His power!! Challenge yourself; equip yourself, and be diligent to do so on every occasion.

Don’t allow; ever again, the “Master Deceiver” to have such an opening to your heart. You are strong, you are brave, you are beautiful, you are more than enough and you are a fellow Sister loved so deeply by God. Put on your Breastplate of Righteousness; stand confident in God’s protection, and stand up to SPEAK IT LOUD & SAY IT OUT:

“I AM RIGHTEOUS!”

Week 3: The Breastplate of Righteousness

Welcome to week 3 dear sisters! This week we are going to learn about the Breastplate of Righteousness. Priscilla say’s it so wonderfully, “What the breastplate did for the Roman soldier’s physical heart, righteousness does for your spiritual heart. Guards it. Protects it. Shields it from your enemy’s attempts to exact fatal blows to this life-giving source in your soul. But understanding how to utilize this piece of spiritual armor requires you to truly understand what righteousness in and how it works.”

My prayer this week is that you will dig in and “truly understand what righteousness is and how it works” so you can use this piece of armor God gives us effectively!

Here is Tiffany Theisen to kick us off for week 3 – The Breastplate of Righteousness. Let’s get started!

Week 2 Recap

Hello sisters loved by God! I hope you all have been putting on the Belt of Truth after studying this week. I really liked what Priscilla said on day 2. “When you’re standing firmly on the truth of God as revealed in His Word – when His truth is at the core of your existence – strength flows into every other area of your life. All your movements and activities (work, school, ministry, relationships) bear witness to the power of God at work in you. They become beneficiary of divine favor and wisdom. Your firm confidence in His promises gives you not only a holy courage, but also the spiritual muscle to carry out whatever He calls you to do.”

I hope you enjoy our recap with Cheryl! Have a great weekend. Don’t miss Week 3 The Breastplate of Righteousness beginning Monday!

Hello sisters! I sincerely hope you’ve enjoyed our video and article from our guest, Cheryl this week. I can’t believe we’re almost to the end of week 2…summer is going too fast! I read a great devotional this morning about a Summer Sabbath. I do pray that you all have a chance to slow down and enjoy time with the Lord and with family this beautiful summer.

Here are a few questions for you to think about. We’re looking forward to hearing your answers.

  1. Review page 45 in your homework, what are some practical ways you can teach your children and/or others to have an unwavering and unapologetic allegiance to the truth?
  2. How is aligning yourself with truth different from legalism? Why does legalism confine, yet truth sets you free? (Review how you answered on page 56 in your homework)
  3. What are some of the most clever illusions you’ve seen the enemy craft in your own life or in the life of a friend?
  4. How is your prayer strategy going? Where are you posting your prayers? Is this location working for you?

The Belt of Truth

Week 2 Cheryl Nalian

I’m remembering a Tuesday morning in March, when I was on my way to my first week of a new Bible study. During my 10-minute drive to church, I was praying and asking God what I should do in a certain situation in regards to a person I cared deeply about.  Just so you know, I pray with my eyes open while I drive. I promise.

I was concerned about something I suspected going on in someone’s life. I asked God if I should confront this person. I asked God, “Should I take this person out to a restaurant & tell them what I thought I knew or ask a bunch of questions?”  Then I arrived at church and went into the library to start The Armor of God Bible study. As I watched Priscilla Shirer’s DVD with my Bible study group, she said not to do things our own way in troubling circumstances. She said to wait on God and do things God’s way in God’s time. Wow! This was my first week and I was already getting answers. This was just a foretaste of the weeks to come.

Every week I gained insight of who our true enemy is, the different tactics he uses to try and destroy us and how to use the armor God has given us to defeat our enemy. So when I think back on week #2 “THE BELT OF TRUTH” the verse that stuck in my mind was

2 Corinthians 11:14
“And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

Belt of Truth 2 Corinthains

His disguise may look very close to the light and close to the truth, but close is not actual light or actual truth. The actual light and truth is found in John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” and John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Week 2 The way, truth and life

On Day 5 we reviewed the way the enemy deceived Eve leading to the fall of man. He was subtle,  then he mixed truth with a lie, “Ye shall not surely die…your eyes shall be opened… ” Genesis 3:4-5

We must beware! Satan may make it all seem safe and harmless and fulfilling and justifiable.  The devil is a liar, a manipulator and a deceiver. On a personal note, I do not trust the devil, therefore I do not speak to him or give him commands. It would be pointless. I follow the instructions of

James 4:7
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Week 2 Cheyl Nalian Blog

Satan knows we have weaknesses and he uses them against us. Day 2 was the Truth Checkup (a self-assessment) which helped me become aware of my weaknesses, so I know where the enemy will try to strike and I know what to work on to become stronger.

What had the biggest impact on me was Day 4 starting at page 59, where our book talks about “The Thing About Feelings.”  My “Actionable Intel” for that day was:  Make sure God’s truth is my guide, not my feelings, intellect, gut instincts or past experiences, which can influence my reaction to current circumstances. I know this is the devil’s favorite weapon against me.

So everyday, since my Bible study, I try to remember not to trust my feelings or emotions. I remember I need to run everything under the light and live a life that aligns with GOD’S WORD. I stay aware of my weaknesses and keep them at bay and strengthen my core by strapping on THE BELT OF TRUTH!

Week 1 Recap

Hello sisters! Welcome to the end of week 1!  I don’t know about you but I found this first week to be very powerful. Reflecting on the specific areas of my life that the enemy uses to attack me, realizing how strategic he is, that he plans and calculates was very eye opening for me. Priscilla says it so perfectly, “So, what’s your plan? Do you have one? Your enemy certainly does. He’s been studying you, baiting you – zeroing in on your tendencies and habits, your proclivities and appetites. His attacks have not been random or unsystematic. They are highly calculated and precise, ready to be waged against you in heavenly places.”

I hope you enjoy our recap with Julie!   Have a beautiful weekend! Stay tune here to the blog for week 2 starting on Monday.
