Week 5 Virtue: Discussion Questions

Hello dear sisters! I hope you have been enjoying week 5 of our study. I enjoyed day 5, Like Pure Silver, the most this week I think. I loved the story about the woman who visited with a silversmith to learn more about the refining process. Malachi 3:3 “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify (them) and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD.”  The silversmith explained that in the process of refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were the hottest, so as to burn away all the impurities. The silversmith must not only sit holding the silver in the fire, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames it would be destroyed. The best part of this process, the silversmith knows the silver is fully refined when he can see his image reflected in the silver. Wow! I don’t know about you but I think that’s so beautiful!!!

“When you make every effort to cultivate virtue in your life, the great “Refiner and Purifier of silver” will reveal His beauty in you , and others will be drawn to love and worship Him!”

Here are some discussion questions. You can share your thoughts and comments here, write them down in your book during your quiet time or discuss them with another sister doing the study with you.

  1. On page 119 we were asked to personalize and pray Psalm 139:23-24. Ask the Lord to search and test our heart and thoughts and to point out any specific “spots” of impurity that are keeping us from enjoying full fellowship with Him. I encourage you to do that.
  2. Take a look at the questions on page 122 & 123 to see if the vice of slander needs to be uprooted from your heart.
  3. Why should being a partaker in Christ’s nature motivate us to “make every effort” to grow in virtue? How does being a partaker in His nature enable us to live a pure life?
  4. How will you “make every effort” this week to grow in virtue?

We have a group of women meeting on Monday evening to do this very same study. We had several sisters who were unable to make our meeting on Monday so we did not do a video taping for this week.

In His Love,
Melisa
